Petey’s snuggling extra close this evening. He’s been doing this slappy thing wherein he, well, slaps his paw on my thigh until I give him my undivided attention. I’m not sure what to think about that.
He’s got to get out of this habit soon. The Week of Kim in the World of Writing is coming soon and I can’t keep letting my dog take precedence over my laptop–at least, not all the time. I’m taking Labor Day week off–all of it. And I’m going to do nothing but write. By the end of the week I will have two stories ready to send out. It will happen. I’m making a special effort to not make any plans for the whole week. Sure, it’s going to be tempting to not screw around, lay in bed til ten, watch daytime tv and spend hours wandering through the park and contemplating the important things. (They’re called fingers, but I’ve never see them fing. You know, that kind of stuff.)
I’ve never had a real vacation, I mean, a vacation where I am not doing stuff just because I don’t have a job, any prospects or anything better to do. And when I have had jobs and have taken time off, it’s always been Christmas, and I’ve always gone back to the Carolinas. (Well, except for last year, but I did spend Christmas with my West Coast family.) So this will be an interesting experiment in discipline, relaxation and productivity. I’ve worked out a little schedule–nothing too rigid. Walks in morning and evening, writing at Herkimer for a couple hours late morning, the rest here. And I will head out I-90 at least one evening for some stargazing. Depending on how much I get done, I might take Petey to the ocean for a day trip.
So we’ll see how it goes. Yessir, we’ll see.
Oh, and for those of you who have blogs but haven’t been writing anything–What the hell? Write something. Stop reading this crap, go back to your blogs and write something. And if you’re not going to write anything, call me.
You know who you are. Yes, you.
